Athanasia was formed in Los Angeles in 2016 by guitarist and vocalist Caleb Bingham, formerly of Five Finger Death Punch (2005–2007), out of the ashes of his earlier band Ascension. Where FFDP built stadiums out of groove, Athanasia is built for something colder and older: the scale of classic arena metal, the velocity of Bay Area thrash, and the frost of Scandinavian black metal, forged into a single, highly original attack.
Every Athanasia record starts at the same address: Nightmare Sound, the studio Caleb Bingham built at the famed Sound City Center in Van Nuys, CA, and still owns and operates today. The band's debut full-length, The Order of the Silver Compass, was written, recorded and produced there before being mixed by Chris Collier at Mission: Black Studios and mastered by Joe Bozzi at Bernie Grundman Mastering — released March 15, 2019 via Rock of Angels Records.
Today the band is a three-piece war machine: Caleb Bingham on guitar and vocals, Brandon Miller on bass, and Jason West — formerly of Murderdolls and Wednesday 13 — on drums.
“A highly original hybrid of classic arena, black, and thrash metal.”
